It is typically sold as rolls in the boxes with a cutting edge, clings to many smooth surfaces and can thus remain tight over the opening of a container without polluting the food.Common plastic wrap is roughly 0.0005 inches and the intention has been to produce thinner plastic wrap, particularly for household use. Therefore now the majority of brands  around the world are almost 8, 9 or 10 μm thick.

 

It is initially created from Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), which still excels as the most common component globally. PVC has an acceptably-low permeability to components like water vapor and oxygen which helps to preserve the freshness of food. It is quite concerning that the transfer of plastic components from PVC into food is still a major problem that the world faces. The Pliofilm was  originally made of various kinds of rubber chloride which was used in the middle of the 20th century. A cheaper alternative to PVC is the low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and it is less adhesive but this particular flaw can be remedied by adding linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), which is believed to add or increase the strength of the film.

 

In few countries like the  US and Japan, the wrap is sometimes produced using polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC). Also some brands have also switched to other formulations due to environmental concerns. It may keep your food away from pollutants but it can be a possible pollutant to the Earth. So there has to be effective use of these components or must introduce other alternative kinds of options.
